Luckily, we have this homemade Maui Zaui recipe, and it’s super easy to make.
If you want a delicious pizza, for half the calories, and half the price, then I have got the recipe for you.
What is Polynesian Sauce?
Polynesian sauce is a sweet and spicy sauce, full of zest and flavor. Many fast-food joints have their own recipe for it, and so will we! Luckily, our recipe for this sauce is very quick and easy. All you really need to make the Polynesian sauce is some sweet chili sauce.
Why you will forkin’ love it…
This pizza is super simple to make. If you have a pizza crust on hand, it only takes a few minutes to get everything together on the pizza, and then about 20 minutes to bake. Many other recipes I’ve seen require you to cook the pizza sauce on the stove, with like, 5 other ingredients. Not this recipe. I am all about simplicity. If that doesn’t appeal to you then this is not the recipe for you.
Even though we have a one ingredient sauce, this homemade Maui zaui pizza is still pretty forkin’ close to the real thing. AND its so dang easy.
Life is short so lets get right to it!
The ingredients…
- 16 oz Pizza Dough
- 1/4 C Sweet Chili Sauce
- 2 C Mozzarella shredded
- 1/4 C Tomatoes fresh, diced
- 1/2 C Canadian bacon
- 1/4-1/2 C Bacon Bits (cooked from fresh would be about 4-5 pieces)
- 1/2 C Pineapple diced, canned or fresh
- 1/4 C Onion red or sweet, chopped
- 1/4 C Green Onion chopped
- 1 TSP Corn Meal (optional)**
- Cooking Spray (olive oil preferably)
- Pizza Tray (12-14 in diameter)
The prepping & cooking…
Preheat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
Roll pizza dough to fit your tray. The type of tray you use doesn’t really matter, so if you don’t feel like investing in a pizza tray, feel free to break out your baking sheet. You just want the thickness of your crust to be around ¼ inch.
**One optional step would be to add a light sprinkle of cornmeal to the backside of your crust. I personally don’t like cornmeal, so I don’t use it. Plus its an extra step…
Once your pizza dough is on the tray, you can add your sauce. Evenly coat 1/4 cup sweet chili sauce all over the face of your pizza.
Once sauce is evenly spread, add 2 C shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over pizza.
Note before you add your toppings: If your pineapple is really juicy, you may want to squeeze some of the juices out before you add it to your pizza. Soggy pizza is no fun.
Add all your toppings (EXCEPT do not add green onion): Canadian bacon, onion. tomatoes, pineapple, and bacon.
Cook the pizza for about 15-20 minutes or until crust starts to brown and cheese is melted. Add the green onions. Let cool before cutting and enjoy!
